As well as limited edition prints; the scene is the next in my series of scenes for Gibsons. This one is planned as a 1000 piece puzzle, due for release during January.
SCENE DETAILS
It's a warm Spring day in 1940; only a couple of months prior to the Battle of Britain. In the Cambridgeshire countryside, a mother and her four children enjoy a picnic watching the trains go by; a slight distraction while her husband is away at war. Her eldest son points to the sky in excitement as three Mk1 Spitfires from nearby RAF Duxford No.19 Squadron fly low overhead. Adding an amazing thrill to their trainspotting picnic.
The steam locomotive is a J15 Class LNER.

The foreground Spitfire is 19 Sqn Mk.1 "N3200" flown by Sqn Ldr Geoffrey Stephenson and depicted shortly before he headed to Dunkirk to help protect British troops during the evacuation.
On May 26th 1940, his Spitfire sustained a radiator hit and Stephenson had to ditch his Spitfire on Sangatte beach. Stephenson was taken prisoner and after multiple escape attempts, he ended up in the infamous Colditz Castle but survived the war.
Over time the Spitfire became completely covered by sand and remained there until it was recovered in 1986 and placed on display in a local museum.
In 2007 she arrived in Duxford, and in 2012 work began on her restoration. In 2014 she made her post restoration flight!
